Xiaomi Redmi Y2 with 5.99-inch HD+ display and AI-powered cameras launched, prices start from Rs 9,999

Xiaomi debuted its selfie-centric budget smartphone line-up called Y-series with the launch of Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite in India last year. Now, the smartphone maker has gone ahead and launched the second generation of the series dubbed Xiaomi Redmi Y2. For the uninitiated, the Redmi Y2 is the re-branded Redmi S2, which was launched in China last month. The smartphone flaunts an 18:9 display and 16MP selfie camera as its highlights.
The newly launched Xiaomi Redmi Y2 comes equipped with a 5.99-inch display and HD+ (1,440 x 720 pixels) screen resolution. Xiaomi has equipped the smartphone with a 2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor backed by Adreno 506 GPU. The handset maker is offering the Redmi Y2 in two configurations 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage. For security, the smartphone offers a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and face unlock.
Coming to the optics department, the Redmi Y2 comes with a 12MP + 5MP dual camera module on the rear panel. The rear camera module offers AI-enabled portrait mode and improved low-light imaging, thanks to 1.25μm pixel size. As for selfies and video calling, the phone offers a 16MP front shooter with an aperture size of f/2.0. The front camera is backed by selfie light, AI Beauty 4.0 and Super Pixel technology. The smartphone boots MIUI9 based on Android Oreo and is powered by a 3,080mAh battery.
Xiaomi is offering the Redmi Y2 in three hues dark grey, rose gold and gold. As for the pricing, the handset will set you back by Rs 9,999 for the 3GB model and the 4GB variant comes with a sticker price of Rs 12,999. The smartphone will be exclusive to Mi.com and Flipkart, and is slated to go on sale starting June 12th when the first sale will go live.
