OnePlus to bring Android P update on OnePlus 3 and 3T smartphones

“The Android 8.1 Oreo will not be rolled out on these devices”

Chinese phone maker, OnePlus, today, confirmed that its OnePlus 3 and 3T (review) smartphones will be getting the latest iteration of Google’s software, dubbed Android P. Both phones were announced two-years back with Android Marshmallow 6.0. This means that Android P will be the third major update for the device, exceeding the company’s policy of 2 years software update.

OnePlus revealed this information via Twitter. In the tweet, the company wrote, “Good news, everyone! We’re bringing the power of Android P to the OnePlus 3 and 3T.” However, the brand is skipping the Android 8.1 Oreo update on either device to put its efforts on the Android P update for the 3/3T. 

Side by side, OnePlus also gave us a tentative timeline for the update. “Android P update will be available on the OnePlus 6 (review), OnePlus 5/ 5T and OnePlus 3/3T, in this order,” said Gary C, Staff Member, OxygenOS Operations, OnePlus. Since Google will announce the final version of Android P in Q3 of 2018, it is likely to make to the OnePlus devices early next year.
