Rumor zone: what to expect from the Mi Max 3

“Here’s everything we know about the upcoming Mi Max 3”

Xiaomi’s Mi Max series is known for offering huge displays and large batteries. We hence expect the upcoming Mi Max 3 to deliver nothing less when it launches next week. As usual, the Chinese company hasn’t been able to stop leaks from occurring, and we have quite a few details about the Mi Max 3. So, we decided to round them up to give you a full overview of what to expect from the smartphone.

A big battery

One of the two most important features of the Mi Max 3 will be its battery. Earlier, word making the rounds was that a 5,400mAh cell will find a place inside the device, however a number of newer reports have suggested that the capacity will be 5,500mAh. This is not a massive difference, and it’ll make the Mi Max 3 one of the most powerful mainstream phones in terms of the battery. Fast charging support is also expected to make its way into this handset in the form of Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology.

Design and display

It’s quite certain at this point that the Mi Max 3 will ship with an 18:9 aspect ratio display. While there’s some confusion regarding its size, it’s either going to be 6.99 inches or 7 inches, so it’s a negligible difference. You can expect the resolution to be 2,160 x 1,080 pixels. The smartphone is expected to continue with a metal-clad unibody construction, which wouldn’t be much different from its predecessor, the Mi Max 2 (review). The phone will also continue with the headphone socket. Now as far as biometric authentication goes, a fingerprint scanner is said to be present on the phone’s rear surface. However, there’s also an evidence of an iris scanner on the handset. Apart from that, you can also expect the Mi Max 3 to feature dual SIM slots, an IR blaster, and an LED indicator.

Cameras

While the previous iteration offered a single camera at the back, the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 is tipped to sport dual cameras. The dual-camera array on the back will apparently consist of the S5K217 and S5K5E8 sensors made by Samsung. While the resolution of the former sensor is in doubt, the latter is said to be a 5MP depth-sensing camera, offering depth-of-field effect. Details about the front camera are pretty slim at the moment.

Hardware

Depending on data spotted on various listings, the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 is being speculated to feature either a Snapdragon 660 chipset or the Snapdragon 710 model, though many recent leak suggests that the latter will power the ‘Pro’ variant. Considering that the SD710 aims to bring features from the Snapdragon 800 series to mid-range, the Mi Max 3 could be among the fastest phones in its segment. The storage options that will be offered may include 32GB, 64GB and 128GB capacities. These are stated to come with 3GB, 4GB or 6GB of RAM, respectively.

Price and availability

The CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun recently posted an image of the Mi Max 3’s retail box on social media, which indicates that the phone’s launch is not too far away now. The brand has now confirmed that the smartphone will be launched at an event on July 19th. As for its price, the starting cost will hover somewhere around the Rs 17,000 mark. However, since we expect multiple variants, the pricing will change with the model.
