Sony likely to launch Xperia XZ3 and Xperia XZ3 Compact at IFA 2018

“The IFA event is Sony’s platform for launching flagship smartphones and this year is no different”

The IFA event that is held every year in Berlin is a major platform for most smartphone brands, including Sony. The brand has been announcing its flagship smartphones on the platform for a while now, with last year’s event seeing the launch of Sony Xperia XZ1 (review) and XZ1 Compact (first impressions). Now, not surprisingly, the Japanese brand has sent out media invites for a press conference in which a new product will be unveiled.

If the track record of the brand is to be taken into account, we can expect Sony to unveil its next generation flagship duo – Xperia XZ3 and XZ3 Compact. However, until now, Sony has not revealed any official information about the upcoming flagships. Although, the Xperia XZ3 has been subject to a number of leaks and reports in the recent past including purported live images of the handset, and rumours that the smartphone might come with two dual camera modules. The flagship was also spotted on the popular benchmarking website, Geekbench with model number H8526.

According to the listing, the upcoming flagship is expected to come with the next generation Snapdragon 855 chipset, which is yet to be announced. The processor is further speculated to be mated to a beefy 8GB of RAM. On the Geekbench listing, the smartphone scored 3,033 points in single core performance and 10,992 points in multi-core. These numbers speak for themselves and the smartphone is expected to be the best smartphone in terms of performance. Also, an earlier rumour suggested that the Xperia XZ3 could be the first smartphone to come with the 5Gb connectivity.

The IFA 2018 is scheduled to kickstart at the end of August and go on till the first week of September. We will bring you more updates as and when they turn up, so stay tuned.
