The Android Oreo (Go Edition) is a lightweight operating system for entry-level smartphones. The Go Edition of software comprises three key components – OS, Google Apps and the Google Play store. The actual operating system has been improved with data management features and security benefits built-in. The Google Apps for the Go Edition have also received an overhaul and take lesser space on the system. Further, the Google Play Store has been optimised to highlight the Go Edition-compatible apps to the users. Also, Google will be following its standard two years update cycle for the Go Edition OS as well, so consumers don’t have to worry about updates to newer builds.

Lava Z50

The Indian handset maker, Lava announced the launch of its first Android Go smartphone, called the Z50 during MWC 2018. The Z50 comes with 4.5-inch display bearing a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. There is a layer of 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass on top for protection against minor nicks. Under the hood, there is a 1.1GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6737m processor, aided by 1GB of RAM. The phone gets 8GB storage onboard, which can be expanded further up to 64GB. In the camera department, the phone sports a 5-megapixel shooter at the rear and front, with dedicated LED flash for each. A 2,000mAh battery keeps the phone running. Available through both offline and online stores, the Lava Z50 retails for Rs 4,400, and also comes with Airtel’s cashback offer.

Nokia 1

Nokia 1 with Android Oreo (Go edition)

The HMD Global-owned brand, Nokia launched its first Android Oreo (Go edition) smartphone called the Nokia 1 in India in March. The entry-level phone ships with a 4.5-inch FWVGA display and is powered by a 1.1GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6737M processor. The SoC is backed by a gig of RAM and 8GB storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB. For imaging, the phone has a 5-megapixel rear shooter and a 2-megapixel selfie camera. Powering the phone is a 2,150mAh battery. The smartphone was launched with a price tag of Rs 5,499 and is available to buy through leading stores in the country.

Micromax Bharat Go

The home-bred handset maker’s Bharat Go flaunts a 4.5-inch display with a resolution of 854 x 480 pixels. The performance is driven by a quad-core processor backed by 1GB RAM and 8GB expandable storage. The phone sports a 5-megapixel shooter at the front As well as the rear. The battery capacity of the smartphone, however, isn’t known yet, but its expected to be around 2,000mAh like other phones on this list. The smartphone can be picked up for Rs 4,399 and will set you back by effectively Rs 2,399 with Airtel’s ‘Mera Pehla Smartphone’ cashback offer worth Rs 2,000.

Lava Z61

Lava recently launched its second Android Go Edition smartphone – the Z61 in India. The handset comes with an 18:9 display measuring 5.45 inches and bearing a resolution of 720 x 1,440 pixels. The handset is fuelled by a 1.5GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6739WA processor, and is backed by 1GB of RAM and 16GB storage. In the camera department, the phone comes with an 8MP autofocus rear snapper and a 5MP front shooter. A 3,000mAh battery completes the spec sheet. Lava has priced the Z61 at Rs 5,750 and it’s up for grabs via major brick and mortar stores across the country in black and gold colours.

Alcatel 1X (Upcoming)

The Alcatel 1X is the part of an entire portfolio of 18:9 smartphones announced by Alcatel at this year’s MWC. The phone’s display measures 5.3-inches and bears a resolution of 960 x 480 pixels. Under the hood, it gets 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MTK6580 processor accompanied by a gigabyte of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. For imaging, the phone gets a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera. There is 2,460mAh battery under the hood. Alcatel has announced that the smartphone will be coming to India, however, it has kept the pricing and availability details under the wraps so far.

According to the latest report, the home-bred handset maker, itel is said to be working on its first Android Go smartphone. The upcoming smartphone is called A22 and will come with a 5-inch FWVGA display. Powering the smartphone will Qualcomm’s 1.3Ghz quad-core chipset, aided by 1GB of RAM and 8GB expandable storage. In the camera department, you’ll get a 5-megapixel rear shooter and 2-megapixel front snapper with soft LED flash. Powering the phone is a 2,400mAh battery. The pricing and availability of the upcoming smartphone are under the wraps, as of now.
