Vivo Z10 vs Vivo Y83: rivalry of bezel-less siblings
“The Vivo Z10 comes as the re-branded variant of the V7+, while the Y83 brings a notch-toting display to the sub-Rs 15k segment”
The Vivo Z10 was launched recently in India, and if you find its specs familiar, just note that it’s a rebranded V7+ (review) with half the storage. Competing against it is Vivo’s very own Y83 smartphone which boasts a slightly larger notch display and ships with MediaTek’s Helio P22 processor. The phones are priced similarly as well, with the Z10 carrying a sticker price of Rs 14,990, whereas the Y83 will set you back by Rs 13,999. There’s tough competition between these two devices, so let’s give you a lowdown.
Design and display

The rear surfaces of both the Vivo Z10 and Y83 are very identical, with single cameras and fingerprint scanners. While the cameras are housed in circular cut-outs, the fingerprint sensors get squarish housings reminiscent of Vivo’s other phones. The rear shell of the Z10 is made of plastic but features a metallic finish. As for the Y83, its back surface has also been manufactured from plastic, but it’s been coated with a polish that makes it look like glass. Between the two, the Y83 is definitely the more attractive looking handset.
Both these phones feature triple slots, which means you can use two SIMs and a microSD card at the same time. Speaking about their displays, both of them feature IPS LCD panels with HD+ resolution. The Z10 sports a 6-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, while the Y83 adopts a 6.2-inch panel with a 19:9 aspect ratio. Thanks to the use of the notch, the Y83’s dimensions remain almost the same as the Z10.
Hardware and software
The Vivo Z10 ships with the Snapdragon 450 chipset, which features a 1.8GHz octa-core processor and an Adreno 506 GPU. The Y83 on the other hand, offers the MediaTek Helio P22 SoC, which ships with a 2GHz octa-core processor and a PowerVR GE8320 GPU. The two processors are very comparable to each other, but the MediaTek offering being the latest among the two, has a slight advantage. Both phones come with 4GB RAM and 32GB of storage.

Unsurprisingly, both handsets boot Funtouch OS, but their Android versions vary. The Z10’s software is based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat, while that of the Y83 gets Android 8.1 Oreo. The former is likely to get the latest version since the V7+ has already received the update. Highlights of Vivo’s Funtouch OS 4.0 include Face Access biometric authentication, AI Face Beauty, Portrait modes, and split-screen multitasking among others.
Camera and battery

The Vivo Z10 carries a 16MP f/2.0 camera on its back which holds the capacity to artificially capture 64MP photos, among other things. The Y83 comes fitted with a 13MP f/2.2 rear snapper. In the selfie department, the Z10 is way ahead of the Y83. The former offers a 24MP front camera with the Moonlight flash that adds natural light to your photos without brightening them more than required. The other device has a modest 8MP front snapper.
A 3,225mAh battery goes inside the Vivo Z10, while the Y83 sips juice from a similarly-sized 3,260mAh unit.
Closing thoughts

The Vivo Z10 is meant for selfie enthusiasts, while the Y83 is aimed at those who want a stylish device that offers an immersive viewing experience. And since their pricing is quite similar, choosing between them is not a very difficult task. Which one do you prefer among these handsets? Do let us know in the comments section down below.
