Xiaomi Mi 5 allegedly exploded in China

Last year, there were a couple of reports regarding a few Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (review) smartphone units exploding or catching fire in India. Now, according to a fresh report out of China, a Xiaomi Mi 5 (review), which is a flagship offering, has been exploded in the company’s home market.

While the local media hasn’t confirmed the news yet, a popular gadget tipster on Weibo, who goes by the name Kumamoto Technology has posted a few images of the exploded Xiaomi Mi 5 on his channel. The images show an alleged burned Xiaomi Mi 5. While the rear of the device is slightly burnt, the front is completely unrecognisable.

To recap, the Xiaomi Mi 5 was launched in February 2016. The phone comes with a 3D glass body, and a fingerprint sensor, which is embedded into the home button of the device. Powering the device is a 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, aided by 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The other specs include a 16MP rear camera with 4K recording support, a 4 UltraPixel selfie snapper, 4G LTE, a USB Type-C port, an IR blaster, and a 3,000mAh battery.
