ASUS ROG Phone gaming smartphone available for pre-order for around Rs 80,000

Earlier this year at Computex 2018, Taiwanese tech giant ASUS joined the club of gaming smartphone manufacturers by introducing the ROG Phone. The phone arrived under the brand’s ROG (Republic of Gamers) series, which also includes a handful of gaming laptops and PCs. Since the unveiling, ASUS hasn’t yet revealed the pricing and availability details of the ROG Phone. However, a Finnish telco has now started taking pre-orders for the flagship.

Finnish telecom operator Telia is allowing its subscribers to pre-book the ASUS ROG Phone. The telco is asking €999 (~Rs 79,500) or €27.75 (~Rs 2,200) per month. As part of the pre-orders, the company is offering a free ROG Delta Headset with USB Type-C that’s worth $190. According to the listing, the customers can expect the shipments of the phone starting week 38, which kicks off on September 17th.

To recap, the ASUS ROG Phone (first impressions) flaunts a front-firing quad-speaker system for an immersive media experience. To make sure that the device doesn’t heat up while gaming, the brand has used what it calls a 3D vapour-cooling system, which offers better heat dissipation as compared to a standard heat pipe-based system. The handset comes with an optional TwinView Dock accessory, which turns the ROG Phone into a dual-screen console. The dock sports a front-firing quad-speaker system, two physical trigger buttons, a dual-haptic force-feedback engine, an enhanced cooling system, and a 6,000mAh built-in battery. There’s also another accessory called the Mobile Desktop Dock, which lets you connect the handset to an external 4K UHD monitor, mouse and keyboard.

As for the other features, the ROG Phone gets a 6-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 pixels, 90Hz refresh rate and 1ms pixel response time. The flagship gets a Snapdragon 845 SoC, aided by 8GB of RAM and an Adreno 630 GPU. The phone comes in two storage variants – 128GB and 512GB. At the rear, the handset has a dual 12MP + 8MP camera system, while on the front, there’s an 8MP selfie camera. A 4,000mAh battery with HyperCharge tech completes the list of specifications.
