Lenovo ZUK smartphones could make a return, company’s recent post suggests

“The ZUK-brand is a subsidiary-brand of Lenovo that was started in 2015”

It seems like the Lenovo’s ZUK brand is not actually “buried“. The company recently shared a 2015 invitation letter for the ZUK Z1 smartphone launch on Weibo – China’s micro-blogging website. It hasn’t mentioned any substantial information about the new ZUK smartphone launch, yet confirmed that the brand is still active and might make a come back shortly.

To recall, ZUK is the subsidiary brand launched by Lenovo three-years back, but it hasn’t been active since the launch of ZUK Edge smartphone in 2016. The brand in its short amount of time added five smartphones to its lineup with a couple of them – thZUK Z1 and ZUK Z2 Plus – even landing in India.

One of the reasons why ZUK stopped producing the smartphones was the take over of Motorola by Lenovo in 2014. Apparently, Motorola was more recognisable and reputed for Lenovo to shift its policy after the takeover, and that resulted in ZUK’s downfall.

Notably, it isn’t the first time that something related to ZUK brand has popped up on the internet. The last time its Weibo account sprang to attention was when the Lenovo Z5 was being launched earlier this year. The company might be repeating the same here. So ZUK making a return or not is entirely speculative for now, hence we’d advise you to take the above information with a pinch of salt.
