Samsung Galaxy S10 to be unveiled in February, 5G model and foldable phone in March: report

“Three Samsung Galaxy S10 variants could be unveiled at MWC 2019 in February 2019, followed by the showcasing of Galaxy F and Galaxy S10 5G”

Samsung will reportedly unveil its Galaxy S10 model in February 2019, followed by the 5G variant of the smartphone a month later. Joining the Galaxy S10 5G showcasing in March will be the foldable phone that the company showcased last week, according to a new report. To recall, the Samsung Galaxy S10 is said to come in three variants and two screen sizes, while the foldable phone with Infinity Flex display will reportedly by called Galaxy F.

According to South Korea-based news agency Yonhap, Samsung will be launching the Galaxy S10 smartphone in February. It is likely that this unveiling will be at Mobile World Congress, the biggest mobile expo of the year, in Barcelona. Citing industry sources, the report claims March will see the global unveiling of the brand’s first foldable phone as well as the Galaxy S10 5G model. This contradicts previous reports that the chaebol will showcase both devices at MWC as well. Moreover, it says the Galaxy F model will not support 5G networks.

Starting with the Galaxy S10, it is said to come with a 5.8-inch display, curved edges and a new display design to accommodate the sensors and front camera without incorporating the notch. Samsung could go with any of the four display designs — namely Infinity U, Infinity V, Infinity O and New Infinity — that it teased last week. A recent report claimed that the handset will have a triple camera setup on the back and a selfie camera under the display (but still visible), along with an in-display fingerprint sensor and 6GB of RAM.

There will be another Galaxy S10 variant with a 5.8-inch display and 4GB of RAM, but without the curved edges and perhaps even the in-display fingerprint sensor. Along with these, a Galaxy S10 Plus model with 6.4-inch screen is also expected at the February event. This bigger model is said to have top-end features such as 8GB RAM, in-display fingerprint sensor, and triple rear cameras. The 5G-capable Galaxy S10 model will likely have a 6.4-inch display panel and as much as 12GB of RAM onboard. Other reports have claimed the new series will be powered by the upcoming Exynos 9820 SoC with dedicated NPU and deliver Pixel 3-like photos; it is also said to miss out on the iris scanner and maybe even the 3.5mm earphone jack.

Samsung foldable phone

Moving on to the Galaxy F foldable phone, Samsung showcased the device last week with two screens — a 7.3-inch display that can be folded to reveal a smaller 4.58-inch panel outside. The company’s co-CEO and mobile chief DJ Koh reportedly said at the sidelines of the event last week that the brand aims to manufacture 1 million units of the handset, though more units could be produced if demand persists. The Yonhap report claims the Galaxy F price may be around KRW 2 million (~$1,770 or Rs 1.28 lakh).
