Users are reportedly getting locked out of their Apple ID accounts

“Apparently changing the password via the ‘Unlock Account’ is the only way to get back in”

Users are reportedly getting locked out of their Apple ID accounts, which is forcing them to reset their password via the ‘Unlock Account’ option on the log screen. People have been reporting this unwanted development since yesterday over Twitter, Reddit and other platforms, claiming that they are getting locked out without any mistake on their part. It seems that lockouts are happening for unrelated actions like listening to tunes via Apple Music on iPhones or watching something through Apple TV. And apparently once your ID gets locked, the display pop-up on the login screen shows that the account has been locked for security reasons.

Apple usually locks an account in case of multiple failed login attempts but access to the account can be restored easily by answering the security questions and entering a trusted phone number for validation. It also requires users to change their password. However, once an account is locked, the user will not be able to access services like iMessage, iCloud and Apple Music till the ID is verified. Nevertheless, many have reported that their accounts have actually frozen. One guy on Reddit has even claimed that this has been happening with him since weeks.

Meanwhile on the constant Twitter complaints, @AppleSupport has been guiding users to the Support Communities web page, which explains what to do in case your Apple ID gets locked and disabled. There’s hasn’t been any official statement from Apple in this regard but an anonymous employee has told Apple Insider that, “At present, this doesn’t appear to be an Apple bug. Whatever it is, it is only impacting a minute percentage of our users.”
