Huawei says it has received invitations for 5G trials in India

“Huawei has received the invitation to explore 5G use cases in India after registering a protest with the DoT after it was left out of the initial list”

Chinese tech giant Huawei has been given the permission to start the 5G trials in India by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). The brand has confirmed that it has received an invitation from the DoT to participate in the development of 5G use cases in the country.

Huawei was initially omitted on the list selected by DoT, along with ZTE, when the department sent companies the invitation to take part in the 5G trial use cases. While Huawei has received the invitation after it registered a protest, ZTE is still left out of the 5G trial list. Samsung, Nokia, and Ericsson trials for 5G use cases in India are already underway, and some of the use cases were demonstrated at the India Mobile Congress in October.

Jay Chen, CEO, Huawei India, told IANS, “We appreciate India’s collaborative and open approach towards Huawei. The country is on the right track to develop 5G network and Huawei remains committed to adding value to the services that roll out of this technology would unleash.

The United States has asked its allies to avoid the use of Huawei infrastructure citing security concerns. It has also been pushing its close partners and allies to restrict the Chinese brand from taking part in 5G rollouts in these countries. Other countries that have also followed the suit include Australia, New Zealand, and Japan, which are said to have put a barrier to the Chinese brands.
