Lenovo Z5 Pro new variant is the world’s first phone announced with Snapdragon 855, 12GB RAM
“The Lenovo Z5 Pro is the first smartphone to be announced with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, along with 12GB DDR4 RAM and 512GB storage”
The Lenovo Z5s smartphone was unveiled at an event in China today, which disappointed many a fan by using a waterdrop notch instead of a pin-hole display to deliver a full-screen experience. However, fans were certainly surprised when Lenovo announced the world’s first smartphone with Snapdragon 855 SoC and 12GB of RAM. These beefy specs were announced for a new variant of Lenovo Z5 Pro; this model will be released at some point in 2019.
The Lenovo Z5 Pro gets a 6.39-inch display, which Lenovo claims is offering 95.06 percent screen to body ratio. The screen uses an AMOLED display panel, and is rated to cover the DCI-P3 colour gamut. It is also HDR10 certified. Like the standard model, the Lenovo Z5 Pro new variant gets a sliding mechanism to house the front camera and sensors. The smartphone will come with Android 9.0 Pie out of the box, with Lenovo’s ZUI 10 custom launcher preloaded on it.
As mentioned above, the Lenovo Z5 Pro new variant is the world’s first to be announced with Snapdragon 855 SoC and 12GB of RAM. However, since no timeline has been provided for its launch, the smartphone may not be the first phone with Snapdragon 855 considering a lot of brands are gearing up to launch handsets powered by the new Qualcomm SoC. Nonetheless, only a few brands, such as Samsung and Huawei, are reported to be working devices with 12GB of RAM and even 10GB RAM has not become mainstream on smartphones yet. The Snapdragon 855 SoC supports 5G speeds, but that did not get a mention at the Lenovo event, so it is safe to say the new Z5 Pro variant with be limited to 4G speeds. The smartphone will have its peak core clocked at 2.84GHz, and Lenovo was quick to highlight the Kryo 485 core benefits in terms of gaming and graphic rendering with the Z5 Pro.
The Lenovo Z5 Pro includes 512GB of native storage. In terms of camera, it gets a dual camera setup coupled with Lenovo’s AI assistant on it. The two cameras use a 16-megapixel primary Sony IMX519 sensor with 6P Largan-branded lens and f/1.8-2.6 variable aperture, and a 24-megapixel secondary Sony IMX576 sensor with 6P Largan-branded lens and f/1.8-2.8 variable aperture. To the front, it gets a 16-megapixel + 8-megapixel dual selfie cameras, which can be activated by the slide-out front camera mechanism. The entire imaging unit is aided by the Qualcomm Spectra 380 ISP.
The Lenovo Z5 Pro has a black carbon fibre finish to the rear, with red inlays to give the smartphone an impression of speed. The device is priced at RMB 4,398 (roughly Rs 45,400).
