Xiaomi Mi 8 series and Mi A1 start receiving Android 9 Pie update
“Android P based MIUI 10 also adds some interesting new features”
Xiaomi has started rolling out its Android 9 Pie based stable update for its Mi 8 series and the Mi A1 smartphone. While the Mi 8 and Mi 8 Explorer Edition users are getting the Android Pie based MIUI 10 update, the one on the Mi A1 comes with build number PKQ1.180917.001.V10.0.3.0.PDHMIFK. A part of Google’s Android One program, the Mi A1 was expected to receive the Android Pie update sooner, nevertheless it has finally started rolling out. The same had started with Hong Kong last week and will reach everywhere, including India, gradually. On the other hand, Mi 8 UD users will have to wait a little extra before receiving the Android Pie based MIUI 10 update.
With the latest MIUI 10, Xiaomi is also introducing some new features including camera enhancements, key UI tweaks and artificial intelligence among others. Users can now make use of the new Night Mode camera setting and 960fps slow-motion video recording. The Night Mode feature allows you to capture impressive photos in low-light settings by detecting the light and jitters through AI Smart Metering and automatically determining the exposure area. In each frame, it smartly selects 100 key feature points and fixes the color at the same time.
Other enhancements to the MIUI 10 include the recent apps menu, which now arranges app cards side by side instead of the stack design used previously. This enables the phone to display as many as six recent apps at one time. Then there’s the new AI feature which studies your app usage patterns and anticipates your actions, which allow it to pre-load an app before you open it. It also adds a new driving mode that works completely on voice commands.
