Instagram introduces shopping tags for creators, redesigned Stories camera UI, and donation stickers
“Instagram says that 100 percent of the money raised through the new Donation Stickers for Stories will go to the nonprofit you are supporting”
With over 500 million daily users, Instagram Stories is one of the most widely used features on the platform. It allows users to share and better express themselves freely. Now, the Facebook-owned social media company has announced three new features, including a new Stories camera UI with Create Mode that will encourage users to share beyond just photos or videos. The new camera design with Create Mode will offer colourful background effects, interactive stickers like Polls and Questions, and much more.
Instagram is also introducing a new feature dubbed ‘Shopping from Creators’. As the name suggests, this will allow users to purchase various products from creators without leaving the app, thanks to its newly added Checkout feature. Users just need to tap on a post, click on any one of the tagged items and proceed to checkout with the desired product. Instagram says that it’ll test this functionality with a small group of creators starting next week.
Lastly, Instagram also introduced new Donation Stickers, where you can raise money for nonprofit organisations directly from the Stories. To use this new feature, users have to open the camera, take or upload a photo, tap the sticker icon and select the new Donation Sticker from the tray. Users can then choose a nonprofit organisation from the list and view the total amount raised by swiping up on the story. Instagram says that 100 percent of the money raised through the Stories will go to the nonprofit you are supporting. However, the feature is currently limited to the US for now, but will be rolled out to other markets soon.
