Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime Plus 2018 tipped to come with an iris scanner
“The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime Plus 2018 is expected to be the first affordable handset from the company to come with an iris scanner”
Lately, there have been reports that Samsung might drop the iris scanner in favour of the 3D facial recognition and under-display fingerprint scanner on the company’s flagship handsets. While this speculation raises questions about the existence of the Iris Scanner, Samsung seems to be in no mood to let go of the technology. According to the latest report, the brand might bring the biometric feature to its more affordable lineup and the Galaxy Grand Prime Plus 2018 might be the first smartphone to get the feature.

XDA-Developers has reportedly managed to obtain leaked firmware files of the said smartphone, and it seemingly confirms that the Galaxy Grand Prime Plus 2018 will come with an Iris Scanner. Notably, the same publication discovered a list of unannounced smartphones in the Galaxy Note8’s Android 8.0 Oreo framework earlier. One of these handsets was codenamed “grandppirislte.” Since the 2016 variant of the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime Plus was codenamed “grandpplte“, the new codename hinted at the same model but with the Iris Scanner. Now, the latest firmware leak reveals that the Galaxy Grand Prime Plus 2018 will sport an iris scanner driver called the ktd2692_iris, which uses flash LED for IR.

Coming to the expected spec sheet, the Galaxy Grand Prime Plus 2018 has been tipped to come with a 5.5-inch display with 960 x 540 pixels screen resolution. The performance on the smartphone is expected to be driven by an Exynos 7870 chipset. However, there is no word on RAM and storage configuration of the smartphone as of now. In the camera department, the phone is expected to come with a 16-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front camera. Lastly, the smartphone has been tipped to be powered by a 3,630mAh battery.
The refreshed 2018 version of the Galaxy Grand Prime Plus will likely be a budget offering. Unfortunately as of now, not much is known about the handset. We will bring you more updates as and when they emerge, so stay tuned.
