Samsung Galaxy F functionality explained in a new patent design
“The Samsung Galaxy F is the upcoming smartphone from the South Korean brand that can fold in half to switch between smartphone and tablet mode”
We are past the stage when a foldable smartphone from Samsung was just a speculation as the South Korean giant itself has gone ahead and demoed the smartphone at its Annual Developer’s under a camouflage. While we know that the brand is readying the foldable smartphone, details of how it looks and functions are still unknown. Now a new leak has emerged, shedding some light on how the handset will function.
A new patent design revealed by LetsGoDigital shows two separate edge to edge display stacked side by side instead of one large display. The image also reveals that the relevant elements on the smartphone will be placed towards the left side of the display. This is so that the viewing area on the right side will free up for the folding purpose. Further, the patent reveals an extra display on the back to the left, which will be activated when the device is folded in half. The smartphone will then shrink the content on the display in order to fit them all on the outer display. Additionally, the patent design also reveals a dual camera module for rear and a single snapper for selfies. We can also see the 3.5mm audio interface in the images.
Notably, Samsung is developing a unique interface in close association with Google, which is believed to be designed to work on foldable smartphones. At the Developer’s Conference, Google’s Head of Android UX Glenn Murphy announced on stage at the Samsung conference that Android will now natively support foldable phone. Murphy also assured that Android will now have APIs to support app continuity, multi-active windows, and different display resolutions. This is an indication of things to come in future as we can expect more and more brands to come out with their foldable designs.
Samsung has announced that the Galaxy F or Flex will hit mass production “in the coming months.” While the brand has not revealed a specific timeline, we can expect an MWC showcase for the same.
