Vivo plans to invest over Rs 4,000 crores in India, set up new manufacturing plant
Vivo India’s director of brand strategy, Nipun Marya said the brand plans to invest over Rs 4,000 crores to expand its operation in the country. As per the statement, a large part of this capital infusion will be used to set up a new plant in India.
Marya told The Economic Times that Vivo India will set up its second plant close to the existing Greater Noida facility. This investment will make Vivo’s manufacturing base in the country equal to that of its two plants in China. The new plant will improve the supply since the existing plant in Noida has already reached its full capacity.
For the new plant, Vivo has received 169 acres of land from the state government. The brand will initially invest Rs 800 crore in the facility, excluding the cost of the land. The new plant is expected to start operations in the next 12-18 months and create around 5,000 job opportunities in the first phase, claims Marya.
Further, in his statement, Marya said, “It will also cater to Vivo’s global expansion through exports as we are already present in 16 countries globally. The first phase will almost double our current production capacity of 25 million units per annum. We also want to deepen our component manufacturing.”
In last couple of years, Vivo has made headway into the Indian market and is among the largest smartphone vendors in the country. It has a pan-India distributor network and has its own online store. Now, it also aims to set up its own offline stores but the Vivo India director did not share any information regarding its retail expansion plans.
Vivo recently launched the Y95 affordable smartphone in India. This smartphone will be available via both online and offline channels, and will be manufactured locally at its Greater Noida facility.
