Top 20 mobile phones in India in December 2018: 91mobiles insights
“Here are the top devices which users searched for in the month of December“
While we’ve already taken a look at the 10 most popular phones of 2018, it’d be interesting to see how the last month of the year gone by was different in terms of what users were looking for. So without any further ado, let’s check out the top 20 mobile phones of December 2018, on the basis of user searches on 91mobiles.
The top 5
Interestingly enough, both the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro (review) and Realme 2 Pro (review) have managed to maintain their first and second spots. What’s even more interesting is the fact that just like the month of November, Realme has not one, not two, but three devices among the top five most popular phones of December 2018. Both the Realme U1 (review) and Realme 2 (review) have swapped places to sit at third and fourth positions, respectively. The fifth place has been grabbed by the ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M2, which has made its debut at a rather enviable position.
The complete list
Similar to the table toppers, you won’t see many changes in the entire list. In fact, most phones have been able to retain their positions and apart from the shift in popularity levels for the remaining ones, there haven’t been any new faces (apart from the ZenFone Max Pro M2). Let’s take a dekko at the complete list of the top 20 phones, wherein the name of the phone is mentioned alongside the change in its ranking from the month of November, its price band and the month of launch in India.

ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M2: 5th position
The ZenFone Max Pro M2 (review) was launched just last month, and seems to have drawn a lot of interest with its power-packed specs. As mentioned in our review of the ASUS handset, the device brings forth the powerful Snapdragon 660 chipset along with a beefy 5,000mAh battery. And with stock Android, dual rear cameras and a 16MP selfie shooter, the phone seems to be a complete package.

Trend analysis
Xiaomi and Realme dominate the popularity charts
Together, Xiaomi and Realme seem to have captured the voluminous mid-budget segment in the Indian market. Between the two, as many as nine smartphones are among the list of the 20 most popular phones. What’s even more surprising is that Samsung has just two of its handsets in the list, and here as well it’s tying with OPPO and Vivo.
Notch-calypse has reached its extreme
It was just last year when we started seeing the proliferation of notch-toting smartphones. And if you take a look at the list of the most popular phones now, you’ll notice that the majority of them feature a cut-out on top of their display. The only brand that is the “last man standing” in the notch era is Samsung, but that’s also going to change as the company has showcased various designs for dewdrop notches along with introducing the punch-hole selfie camera-toting Galaxy A8s.
With the year 2019 already seeming to be packed with interesting smartphone launches, we’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for the phones and brands that make it big this year, so keep watching this space.
